The 9jaSAFE Awards is Nigeria most prestigious and respected award for safety professionals/practitioners across Nigeria.

Its objective is to recognise outstanding performances and laudable initiatives of companies and individuals; and to foster and promote Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) best practices in the workplace and in the nation.

Safety Record Newspaper, the organizer of 9jaSAFE Awards has been in existence for over a decade and is a vanguard at championing news around the health and safety industry, being Nigeria’s premier HSE specialized publication. Having been directly serving the HSE industry, we thought to spearhead a reward initiative that will further expand the offerings of the industry and so 9jaSAFE AWARDS was birthed.

The Nigeria Safety Award for Excellence, Hall of Fame (9jaSAFE AWARDS) now in its second year is the foremost independent Nigeria Safety Award that recognises outstanding performances and laudable initiatives of companies and individuals. The aim is to foster and promote Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) best practices in the workplace.

The first edition of this landmark award event was held on the 4th of September, 2015 at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki Lagos. It was executed excellently and discussions centered around deepening the opportunities yet to be explored in the HSE industry. It was a convergence of HSE professionals majorly organisations and stakeholders in Manufacturing, Oil and Gas, Power and Utilities, Emergency response, Telecommunication, Aviation, Banking, Transportation among others.

How nominees were chosen

Nominations are open to HSE professionals, reputable safety stakeholders (Institutes, State commissions, Directorates, Ministries, etc.) and the general public for the award. All nominees will be contacted through emails to provide evidence to justify their nominations.

Judging Criteria

The judges (who are respected professionals in the field of HSE) will access the evidence of how nominees (based on different categories) achieved excellence in promoting and raising safety consciousness in the following areas:

  • Innovation, Initiatives and achievement
  • Teamwork (including communication with partners outside the department)
  • Leadership
  • Effective use of resources
  • Impact on employees, the business / organization and the environment
  • Awareness / Advocacy / Training
  • Publication / Media campaign
  • Humanitarian / Corporate social responsibility / Sponsorship
  • Rescue operation
  • Safety policy / Procedure
  • The shortlisted nominees for the 9jaSAFE Awards 2016 will be contacted and names will be published in the Newspaper and on the website. The winners for each category will be announced at the 9jaSAFE Award gala night at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki Lagos on a date to be announced in August 2016.
